A brief history of XIMES
XIMES was founded in 1997 by Johannes Gärtner and Sabine Wahl and has offices in Vienna and Erlangen. The name is a combination of the English word “Times“ and the mathematic variable “X“, and so represents the creative interplay between mathematical models and the field of working hours.
XIMES initially began its work under the name “Working Hours Laboratory“ as a spin-off from Vienna’s Technical University, with the goal of exploring the applicability of mathematical models to the organization of operational working hours. Success in these efforts led to the development of commercially viable products as well as the know-how necessary for the implementation of commercial consulting projects.
The first product was the Shift Plan Assistant [SPA], developed in 1998. In addition, XIMES simultaneously developed various software tools for value-management and working hours-ascertainment. Today the [SPA] and Operating Hours Assistant [OPA] and Time Intelligence Solutions [TIS] tools are the company’s pivotal products.
The company subsequently expanded into Germany; the office in Germany (first in Dortmund and, as of 2005, in Erlangen) is managed by both Johannes Gärtner and Roberto Herterich.
Towards the end of 2005 the headquarters in Vienna were moved to the office at Hollandstraße 12; the office is utilized by approximately a dozen employees and is ideally suited for in-house training sessions, workshops and seminars.
